The Trends Of Tomorrow

It's that time again.  The shops are seeing their first drops of Autumn Winter clothing and I haven't even been on holiday yet.  The Summer's been a wash out and it feels like we've spent more time resembling the photo above than in our Summer finery.  Thankfully there'll be new clothes to crave, new trends to covet.  And I am an Autumn Winter Girl.   A chunky knit jumper in the perfect grey actually makes me weak at the knees, and there's nothing I like better than a good mitten.  Here is my roundup of the top trends for the season.

Winter Florals

Often associated with Summer, florals continue to bloom into Autumn Winter in darker, moodier tones.  Burberry Prorsum (above) nailed this with an Autumnal colour palette and slightly smudged, painterly print.  Note the addition of studded leather gloves (to die for)
to add an edge to this soft look.

Jill Sander's catwalk was lined with flowers encased in glass boxes.

The inspiration

The Goth

Dark.  Angst-ridden.  Fabulous.
The Goth is all about attitude this Autumn Winter.  Sumptuous velvet, spider web lace and leather, leather, LEATHER.  Gucci (above) showed it best with an eery runway, layers of black and the deepest red lips.

The beauty

Tartan Army

Come September, the high street will be awash with herringbone, houndstooth, tartan and tweed.  The heritage look was HUGE at the shows lead by Christopher Bailey for Burberry Prorsum.  His collection was named 'Town and Field' and models sashayed down the catwalk with masculine tweed flat caps juxtaposed with feminine nipped in waists.  McQ, Ralph Lauren and Chloe all followed suit with models dressed
for a good long walk in the country side.

The accessories

Once again, Burberry won the battle of the best accessories.  This ruched bow belt appeared in a variety of warm, autumn leaf shades, the flat caps looked amazing with sooty eyes peeking from beneath,
and do not get me started on the fox handle umbrella.  Also available in Owl,
this gold handled parasol will set you back almost £500.

Opulence

This trend is decadent.  Resplendent.  Overtly luxurious.
Nodding towards the style of Rococco and Baroque, this trend is all about texture and wealth.  Thick, plush fabrics are heavily embroidered and decorated, and brocade and velvet are key.  Dolce and Gabbana and Balmain rule the roost.

The detail

The accessories have to be huge.  Statement necklaces at Lanvin were ridiculously, wonderfully vast, and Dolce and Gabbana showed the best earrings.

Purple Reign

Purple is the colour of wealth and royalty, and it is back with avengance.
All the designers had a different take on it but how ever you choose to wear it,
this is the colour of Autumn Winter 12.

The runway

The Chanel runway is always the show stealer and a clear indicator
of the hottest trend ahead.  This time round, the label's futuristic catwalk signalled to
everyone that purple was going to be key.

The Orient Express

The designers turned to the East for inspiration as Dries Van Noten, Proenza Schouler and Sportmax, to name a few, played with elaborate oriental prints and fabrics.  Obi belts, Chinoiserie prints and stunning kimono jackets were seen and I have already seen this trend filter down onto the high street.

The detail

Proenza Schouler's collection was simply sublime.  Just look at these jackets.

Here's to a wonderful Winter.
