N. E. R. D.

How odd that something so universally mocked at school should be so celebrated by the fashion industry?  The geek has been the fash pack's unlikely muse for some time now and the term 'geek chic' isn't going anywhere.  Thick rimmed glasses have become such a style must have that even those with perfect vision can get the look with a pair of plastic lenses from the high street.  Preppy clothing should be all about layering and textures.  Channel a librarian who reads Vogue hidden inside a more respected literary title, and you'll be on the right track.  Time to study:

The Look

The cutesy little collar will look suitably studious under a big bulky knit,
and the combination of monochrome and mustard gets a fashion A*

Wanna really go to town?  Visit John Lewis's school department.
They have uniforms for senior girls and you could add a tie or sew on a badge for extra house points.

Wear with heels and a top knot.

Socks and sandals - not such a fashion crime after all.

The Finishing Touches

Pile it all on top or attempt the Heidi Plait, but keep it disheveled.  Makeup under thick framed glasses should be fairly minimal, glasses magnify any imperfections so if you opt for a flick of liner make sure it's precise.  A bright peach, pink or red lip against a heavy black frame looks bang on.
