Mensday Wednesday

Ok, so usually this is a girls only zone, but today I'm dipping my toes into the pool of menswear.  I would never trade being a girl for being a boy - EVER.  Our ability to multitask, our feminine wiles, our accepted love of sparkles and sequins.  All of these things, I treasure. However, when it comes to fashion, because there is so much available to women, there are so many areas where girls can go wrong.  For a woman to be deemed 'well dressed' she must possess creativity and flair.  For guys it is really quite simple.  You don't have to be a clothes horse, not many girls are going to swoon over an eccentric male fashion blogger.  Just stick to basics, avoid certain sins and introduce a bit of colour, wit and charm where at all possible.

The breton top is as essential a basic for men, as it is for girls.
Instantly chic with chinos or a pair of tailored summer shorts.

The denim shirt looks so slick with khaki, oxblood, mustard, tan or sand.
Worn alone or over a T, this is a really key piece in any man's wardrobe.
Get a fast, wallet friendly version as above, or invest in one with more longevity if you can (below).  For the very brave, I have seen double denim be carried off with aplomb.
The guy in question, I remember, was rather a hit at a past house party.
He is now referred to simply as 'Double Denim'.

Aubin & Wills is a MUST know brand.  The older brother of Jack Wills, without the ridiculously Sloaney reputation, provides chic, irrisistable pieces.  All you have to do with these tailored shorts is throw on a T-shirt, a smart hoodie, an amazing piece of knitwear, whatever, and team with a smart or perfectly battered summer shoe.

A past boyfriend wore coloured trousers so good, that my housemates
commented on said garments before they gave me their diagnosis on the boyfriend.
The easiest way to inject confident colour into an outfit.

£24.99

The chunky knit - my absolute weakness on a man.  This navy one is a dream and begs to be touched.  Warning - it will inevetably be worn more by a girlfriend than it will by you.

A 'man bag' or satchel style, preferably leather and a bit worn - if I never see another rucksack again it will be too soon.

Shoes.  Perhaps the biggest potential mine field of all.
Desert boots, brogues, espadrilles, hi tops - all good. Converse, of course.  But never, ever gym trainers outside the gym.   EVER.  Not for a Sunday morning stroll.  Not for a country walk.  ESPECIALLY not teamed with an otherwise perfectly sharp suit on the tube.
I would banish these 'men' if I could.  How uncomfortable can your work shoes be?!
Have you seen ours?

Dapper accessories seperate the men from the boys.  A bold sock, a knitted tie, a straw trilby or pork pie hat for the Summer.
